Step by step

Step 1

Make sure the wall is clean and completely dry.

Step 2

Check that the wall surface is smooth and that your first lenght is perfectly straight. You can do this using a spirit level tool. Start from a door frame, a window, or a corner.

Step 3

Apply wallpaper paste directly onto the wall. Use a brush in areas that are difficult to reach, such as near the ceiling or along the floor. Apply enough wallpaper paste so that you can clearly see ridges forming when you run your finger through it.

Step 4

Place the wallpaper roll on the floor against the wall and pull up the first length toward the ceiling. Lightly position it in place, making sure it extends slightly above the top edge.

If wallpaper paste is missing in any area, or if the underlying wallpaper has come loose, bubbles may form. In that case, gently lift the wallpaper and apply more paste with a brush.

Step 5

Once the wallpaper is properly aligned, smooth it out using a wallpaper tool, working from the center outward to each side to remove any air bubbles.

If any wallpaper paste gets on the wallpaper or the tool, you can easily wipe it off with a damp sponge.

Step 6

Let the wallpaper overlap a few millimeters onto the baseboard or floor. Then trim the excess along the edge while the wallpaper is still damp.

Make sure the blade is sharp.

Step 7

Apply the next strip edge to edge (do not overlap). If you are using a patterned wallpaper that needs to be matched, make sure to align the pattern at the top near the ceiling.

Step 8

Pay close attention to the measurements when you reach an inside corner. Measure the remaining section to be wallpapered at three points: near the ceiling, in the middle, and along the baseboard.

Match the pattern of the next length with the previous one and mark a vertical line based on your measurements. Add 2 cm (about ¾ inch) and cut along the line. Save the excess piece, as you will use it on the next wall.

Step 9

Apply the cut lengts and let the extra 2 cm wrap around the corner. Then overlap onto the next wall using the remaining part of the length (the excess piece). The overlap should be about 1 cm.

Step 10

Ventilate the room after wallpapering, letting the moisture from the wallpaper paste can evaporate. This helps the wallpaper dry evenly and prevents moisture from being trapped behind it.

Our QuickUp wallpapers are breathable and allow moisture to pass through, so any damp spots will disappear once the wallpaper has dried (usually within 24 hours).

Inner corners

In corners, trim the lenghts vertically. The amount to trim depends on the distance between the previous length and the inner corner. Be mindful of the measurements, as they may vary. Measure the remaining area in three places: at the top near the ceiling, in the middle, and at the floor. Then add an extra 2 cm to your measurements. These additional centimeters help the wallpaper around the corner.

Match the pattern and mark a vertical cutting line. Cut the strip and save the remaining part for later use. Apply the lenght as usual, using the extra centimeters to wrap around the corner. Your wallpaper tool will be helpful here. Apply wallpaper paste over the small section that extends around the corner. Then overlap onto the next wall using the remaining part of the lenght you cut. Wipe away any excess paste with a sponge.

Corners are the only place where you should overlap the wallpaper.

Outer corners

Allow the length to extend 1–2 cm past the outer corner. Attach the lenght and trim the excess at the top and bottom as usual. Note: Leave the overhang in place.

Apply a small amount of wallpaper paste (about 2 cm) to the wall on the other side of the corner. Then gently fold the overhang around the corner using a sponge. Finally, wipe away any excess adhesive with the sponge.

Power outlets & switches

When you reach light switches and electrical outlets, turn off the power and remove the covers. Apply the wallpaper over the outlets and then carefully trim around them with a wallpaper knife while the wallpaper is still damp (make sure the power is switched off). Ensure the entire length is fully secured and smoothed out before reinstalling the covers.
