Step by step

Step 1

Make sure the wall is clean and dry.

Step 2

Cut the lengts of paper wallpaper, taking pattern matching into account. Add a few extra centimeters at both the top and bottom. We recommend working with 10 lengths at a time. As a tip, mark the back of each length with an upward arrow to ensure the correct hanging direction.

Step 3

Apply a generous amount of wallpaper paste to the back of the wallpaper using a roller, making sure the paste reaches all the way to the edges. Important: Ensure no paste gets onto the surface you are laying out your lengths on, as it could transfer onto the front of the next strip. Then fold the strip towards the center so that the ends meet, with the pasted sides facing inward. Allow the wallpaper to soak for 5 minutes.

Step 4

We recommend starting near a window to avoid shadows at the seams. Wallpaper about half of the room until you reach a door or a corner. Then start again from the other side of the window and continue with the remaining area. Always hang the lengths in sequence, even over windows and doors.

Step 5

Fold out only the top half of the first length and position it lightly in place a few centimeters above the ceiling line where you plan to trim. Check that the length is straight using a a spirit level tool or a laser level tool. If it’s misaligned, gently peel it back and reposition it. Do not try to twist it into place!

Step 6

Then unfold the lower half and attach it. Smooth the length using a wallpaper brush to remove any air bubbles. Work from the center of the wallpaper out toward the edges, and from the ceiling down to the floor.

Step 7

Trim along the floor line and ceiling line. Change the blade frequently, as a dull blade can tear the wallpaper. Any wallpaper paste that gets on the front should be wiped off immediately with a sponge and clean water.

Step 8

Apply the next length with a slight overlap of a few millimeters. Since the wallpaper may shrink slightly as it dries, this helps prevent gaps from forming. Make sure to align the pattern correctly.

Step 9

At corners, trim the length vertically. Apply wallpaper paste and fold the pieces as usual. Let the first section of the length extend 2 cm around the corner. Secure the wallpaper carefully in and around the corner. Remember to be extra gentle when working with paper wallpaper. Then continue wallpapering as usual.

Step 10

When done - Ventilate the room in short intervals after wallpapering. Avoid strong drafts during the first few hours. This allows the wallpaper to dry evenly without the risk of bubbles or open seams. Maintain a normal room temperature (18–22°C / 64–72°F) and let in some fresh air occasionally to help the moisture from the wallpaper paste evaporate. This ensures an even drying process.

Inner corners

In corners, trim the lenghts vertically. The amount to trim depends on the distance between the previous length and the inner corner. Be mindful of the measurements, as they may vary. Measure the remaining area in three places: at the top near the ceiling, in the middle, and at the floor. Then add an extra 2 cm to your measurements. These additional centimeters help the wallpaper around the corner.

Match the pattern and mark a vertical cutting line. Cut the strip and save the remaining part for later use. Apply the lenght as usual, using the extra centimeters to wrap around the corner. Your wallpaper tool will be helpful here. Apply wallpaper paste over the small section that extends around the corner. Then overlap onto the next wall using the remaining part of the lenght you cut. Wipe away any excess paste with a sponge.

Corners are the only place where you should overlap the wallpaper.

Outer corners

Allow the length to extend 1–2 cm past the outer corner. Attach the lenght and trim the excess at the top and bottom as usual. Note: Leave the overhang in place.

Apply a small amount of wallpaper paste (about 2 cm) to the wall on the other side of the corner. Then gently fold the overhang around the corner using a sponge. Finally, wipe away any excess adhesive with the sponge.

Power outlets & switches

When you reach light switches and electrical outlets, turn off the power and remove the covers. Apply the wallpaper over the outlets and then carefully trim around them with a wallpaper knife while the wallpaper is still damp (make sure the power is switched off). Ensure the entire length is fully secured and smoothed out before reinstalling the covers.
