In the 1920s and 1930s there was a great interest in Eastern exoticism in home decoration. Wallpaper with Japanese and Chinese motifs became popular. Lacquer red and black was a typical colour combination of the time, and also found in interior items such as furniture and porcelain. The original wallpaper can be found in a city apartment on Brunnsgatan in Gävle.
